Air-conditioning is a costly purchase for many of us and prices easily cost thousands of dollars for each purchase. Having to change to a new air-conditioning unit every few years is not the best option.
Having worked with many homeowners over a span of more than 20 years in the air-conditioning servicing & repair, below are some tips that we think may be useful for you as a homeowner.
1) Reliable Air-Conditioning Contractor
The first step to owning an aircon unit that lasts a long time is the installation process. A well-planned and done installation will help you avoid plenty of unnecessary air-conditioning problems.
You might have probably heard from friends or experienced a nightmare where within 3-6 months of a new aircon installation, the air-conditioning starts getting faulty from aircon leaking to aircon not cold or even noisy aircon.
It is therefore important to hire a qualified & reliable air-conditioning contractor, with a long history of experience, to survey and discuss how to best install your aircon pipes before the actual installation.
2) High-Quality Copper Pipes
Before making an air-conditioning purchase, always ask the air-conditioning contractor the types of pipe they will be using. This is because many of the air-conditioning contractors, will by default, choose the cheaper alternative on their end to save cost.
By understanding this, have a discussion with your air-conditioning contractor and request for higher-grade copper pipes.
The purpose of a better-graded copper pipe is to ensure that your aircon pipes can withstand higher operating pressure. The grade varies from the lowest SWG (standard working gauge) or G25 (0.51mm) to G21 (thickest).
For HDB owners, the G23 (0.61mm) is usually recommended. If you have concealed piping, then G22 (0.71mm) which is a better choice.
3) Higher-Efficiency System
For a higher efficiency air-conditioning system, you will need to understand the various type of compressors which will be able to cool your desired area.
With this understanding, you will be able to choose the right type of air-conditioning suitable to cool your desired area. Air-conditioning comes in ranges of BTU. An ideal BTU will be able to cool your desired area while at the same time, not overspending on installation.
It is always good to ask your air-conditioning contractor for their advice on the best air-conditioning setup.
For the best electrical savings, it is advised that homeowners choose an air-conditioning unit with a higher efficiency rating. These rating varies from model to brand and can make a significant saving when you use your air-conditioning frequently.
4) Air-Conditioning Maintenance
As we mentioned earlier, it is cheaper and more economical for you to service & maintain your air-conditioning instead of replacing it once every few years.
Having a professional aircon contractor check your air-conditioning at least once a year will ensure that problems with your air-conditioning, can be diagnosed early to prevent damages beyond repair.
With your aircon system problem-free, you can be sure your air-conditioning is good to run for the years to come.
5) Cleaning Of Air-Conditioning Filters Regularly
If you’re using your air-conditioning daily, we highly recommend that you should clean your air filters regularly.
The Air-Conditioning Filters are the easiest and most accessible item that you, as a homeowner, can access to clean it. The Aircon filters can be accessed by lifting the air-conditioning covers.
Clean air-conditioning filters ensure that your aircon system operates smoothly without blockage and chokes from the dust accumulated over time. If air-conditioning filters are blocked or choke, it will cause your system to run on a heavier load or in extreme cases, overheat.
